Empowering Citizens in Detroit:

In partnership with the UM Detroit Center, the Keith Center hosted a community event called “Empowering Citizens in Detroit: A Practical Workshop for Activating Political Agency”. A dynamic, hands-on two-part workshop designed to equip residents with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to actively participate in shaping local governance, community members learned the various ways they can participate in democracy in Detroit. From formal participation, such as elected office, or informal, such as making public comment at city council meetings. Part two of the workshop will take place on August 22nd from 4-9PM at the UM Detroit Center. During the second session, the Keith Center will pilot two self-organizing tools aimed at supporting individuals and small groups to organize effectively around specific issue areas.
